Do I get a discount on conference tickets?

Q. Do I get a discount on conference tickets?
A. No. Volunteering will allow you free access to some events, depending on how many hours you've committed. If you wish to have access to all conference events, you must purchase a ticket.

Q. Will I get free meals for volunteering?
A. Refreshments (drinks) will be available. Volunteering does not include access to any of the conference meals, unless you volunteer for 12+ total hours, which will give you access to the Brillante Dinner on Saturday 10/10/09. For all other meals, you must purchase a ticket individually at the conference.

Q. Where will I pick up my registration badge?
A. When you arrive at the conference site for your volunteer commitment, go directly to the Volunteer Headquarters (Room 101A). Volunteer Headquarters officially opens on Wednesday, 10/7/09. Upon arrival you will sign in and receive your conference registration badge, volunteer button, raffle prize tickets and instructions.

Q. What should I bring with me when I arrive at the Volunteer Headquarters?
A. Bring your confirmation information to make the processing easier and faster

Q. Do I need to sign in and out for each Volunteer Commitment at the conference?
A. Yes, you must sign in and out at the Volunteer Headquarters before beginning and ending each shift.

Q. Can I submit my volunteer interests in an email or by phone?
A. No, please use the Volunteer Registration on the website

Q. How do I get free entry to the Career Expo?
A. There are several volunteer options to gain access to the career Expo you may commit to one shift (4 hours) which will give you access to Saturday, 10/9/09 Career Expo entrance. You may also commit to two or more shifts and receive access to the Career Expo for both days Friday, 10/9 and Saturday 10/10

Q. What do I need to take advantage of the free entry to certain events I've earned through volunteering? Do I need to sign up or get a pass?
A. You do not need a separate pass, only your volunteer registration badge is needed for entry to allowed events (meals are not available to volunteers - you can purchase a ticket)

Q. I'm interested in attending the Career Expo but it's difficult to find a volunteer opportunity that does not conflict with this activity.
A. We do offer volunteer opportunities before the actual conference begins, starting Monday, 10/5/09. Sign up early to make sure you get the time slot you want.

Q. I submitted my volunteer interest through the website. When will I be confirmed of my shifts?
A. Your volunteer registration is processed immediately and confirmation is provided automatically through the system. Please allow 24 hours if this information is not immediately received before contacting volunteers@nshmba.org

Q. I received my volunteer confirmation. Do I need to do anything else to register?
A. Your volunteer confirmation is your schedule. You don't need to do anything further....See you at conference!!

Q. What is the dress code for the conference?

A. Generally, the dress code is as follows. However, the dress code for individual volunteer commitments may be different. Check the volunteer opportunities page and click on the link for the opportunity you are interested in for more information.

  • Tuesday, Oct 6: Casual
  • Wednesday, Oct 7: Casual
  • Thursday, Oct 8: Business Casual
  • Friday, Oct 9: Business Dress
  • Saturday, Oct 10: Business Dress
  • Saturday, Oct 10: Brillante Evening - Business Dress, Formal or Cocktail Attire Appropriate

Q. Will I have time to attend the Professional Development Seminars?
A. Suggest to commit your volunteer where it will not conflict with any of the professional development seminars.

Q. Will I have an opportunity to submit my resume to NSHMBA for recruiters before attending the conference?
A. This benefit is allowed ONLY to current NSHMBA Members.

Q. I submitted my interest without my contact information. Will my my volunteer interest be processed?
A. No, it will not be processed. You will need to fill out all required text information in order to be registered as a volunteer.

Q. I submitted my availability but it does not match the schedule on the volunteer website, will my volunteer interest be processed?
A. No, your availability must match with the time and date posted on the individual volunteer opportunities.

Q. How old must I be to volunteer at the conference?
A. You must be at least 21
