FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Just Announced:
Homeland Security, TV’s “Parking Wars” and Access and Revenue Control
to be featured in International Parking Institute’s
Conference & Expo General Sessions

World’s largest parking industry conference to be held in Las Vegas May 10-13, 2010
February hotel and registration discounts end soon

Fredericksburg, VA – February 9, 2010 – The 2010 International Parking Institute Conference & Expo will feature three general sessions on hot-button issues in today’s parking industry: Access and Revenue Control; Parking and the War on Terror; and parking enforcement as seen in A&E’s hit documentary, “Parking Wars.” The IPI Conference & Expo will be held May 10-13, 2010, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Convention Center.

The following general sessions will provide valuable tools for those with parking responsibilities:

Access and Revenue Control for Parking, Tuesday, May 11, 9:00 am – 10:30 am
With parking facilities constituting a major revenue source, the effective management of access and revenue control is key to every successful parking operation. Richard B. Easley, CAPP, and Thomas Wunk, CAPP, of IPI’s Technology Committee will provide valuable, timely insights into managing the RFP process, developing achievable technical specifications, and selecting a Parking Access Revenue Control System (PARCS).

National Security is Everyone’s Business, Wednesday, May 12, 10:45 am – 12 noon
With thousands of vehicles entering parking facilities each day and the possibility that any of them could be utilized by terrorists, IPI members and partners play a critical role in waging the war on terrorism. Bill Arrington, general manager, Highway and Motor Carrier Security Division of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), will describe what parking professionals can do to identify terrorists and their contraband. He will also introduce a new parking-specific module of First Observer, an anti-terrorism and security awareness training program that uses the skills, experiences and savvy of America’s professionals. For the first time ever, conference attendees can participate in this training module, designed specifically for parking professionals.

“Parking Wars” Closing General Session, Thursday, May 13, 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm
Whether they are ticketing, towing or booting, the people on the frontlines of parking enforcement in Philadelphia and Detroit have brought new visibility and controversy to the daily challenges of the parking industry through A&E’s hit documentary, “Parking Wars.” Andrew Dunn, series producer, Hybrid Films, will share behind-the-scenes stories and video clips from the production and engage the audience in a discussion of parking enforcement issues.

“Today, new trends and technologies are revolutionizing the parking industry,” explained Shawn Conrad, CAE, IPI Executive Director. “The general sessions at the 2010 IPI Conference & Expo are designed to bring parking professionals and their partners up to speed on the parking industry’s latest trends, technologies and processes that have immediate applications to their organizations. The focus is on innovation and solutions that make parking operations more effective and successful from a business perspective.”

Previously announced, the keynote speaker on opening day will be football hero, motivational speaker and subject of one of the top ranked inspiring movies of all time, Rudy Ruettinger.
